OrientGate project presented at COP 18, Doha

Dec 5, 2012

The OrientGate project was presented during the side event “A Local Focus on EU Climate Policy: Adaptation in an Enlarging Europe”, at the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Doha.

The side event was organised by the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) on December 5, 2012, and focused on efforts to increase the climate resilience of new EU member states and candidate/accession countries, with an emphasis on gaps and needs, challenges, good practice at regional and local level, and the enhancement of regional cooperation.

The REC’s senior climate change expert Zsuzsa Iványi highlighted the OrientGate project’s regional approach and presented examples of adaptation measures at regional and local level in South Eastern Europe. The side event closed with a panel discussion focusing on national efforts, the gaps between the scientific and decision-making communities, and financing challenges.
