Scientific and Steering Committee meetings

May 6, 2014
OrientGate partners gathered in Athens, Greece, on May 6-7, 2014, to take part in the project's Scientific and Steering Committee meetings.

The meetings took place at the premises of the Attica Region Transport Directorate and were moderated by Antonio Navarra, president of the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC). Officials from the Attica Region welcomed participants to the meeting and expressed their satisfaction with their region's participation in the OrientGate activities, which have contributed to a better understanding of the effects of climate change in South Eastern Europe.

The project committee meetings provided an opportunity to discuss the progress achieved under Work Package 3, which focuses on mapping and harmonising data, downscaling, and the development of a data platform. Presentations made during the afternoon session brought partners up to date on each of the six OrientGate pilot study regions.

Day 2 began with an update on project-related communication efforts (WP2), followed by a presentation on the activiites of WP7 with respect to the preparation of the project's final publication. This was followed by a period of open discussion, much of which was devoted to the publication, which has the provisional title "Integrating Climate Change Knowledge into Planning: A Guidebook for European Regions and Communities".

The event ended with a site visit to the nearby Vouliagmeni Lake, a sunken lake fed by an undeground thermal spring, and the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion.
